Igniting Sparks
"Christ Magnified, Connected Movements, Completing the Mission" was the theme of CM2007. From June 30 to July 5, 2007, a historic event took place in Busan, South Korea. Some 20,000 people from 127 countries gathered there for the Campus Mission 2007 conference.
What is it like when 20,000 of God's people worship together? It was just like what John wrote in the book of Revelation, "After this I looked and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and in front of the Lamb. They were wearing white robes and were holding palm branches in their hands. And they cried out in a loud voice: 'Salvation belongs to our God, who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb'" (Rev 7:9-10).
God did a great work at the conference. Even before that, we experienced His provision. Indeed, even the native students who had difficulties raising funds to go for the conference managed to solve the problem at the last minute.
CM2007 has become a turning point for many participants. The messages were so powerful, everyone had to humble himself and come before God, lifting up the name of Christ. Pei Ling, a fourth-year student, said she had always refused to submit to God. During one of the meetings, she surrendered herself totally to God because she was touched by His love.
CM2007 connected campus movements from all over the world. The participants were encouraged by the sharing from different countries and caught the vision of winning the world for Christ.
As Steve Douglass, the president of Campus Crusade for Christ International, said in his message, the vision of CM2007 is like a forest fire; and the participants are the sparks that will spread from where they are to other places, starting another forest fire, and this will continue on. This mission conference was really different. Many lives were changed. God lit up many sparks and raised up a new generation of campus students at the conference.
