Cupid Camp in Port Dickson

Cupid is coming! MCCC staff Lee Heng Kee and his wife Chong Suk Ling organized a “Cupid” camp in Port Dickson on July 17 and 18, but this pair of Cupids was unlike the beautiful boy in Greek mythology who makes matches at his whim and fancy. The couple wanted to help students have the correct concept of love and to prepare them for marriage and family.

They came up with the idea for the camp because they saw that university students are very interested in this topic and it could be a way to reach out to them. The Lees’ target was to have 44 participants, but only 24 people registered, of whom five were non-Christians. Suk Ling said, “In this situation, we have more time to talk with them and minister to them.”

Three talks were given at the camp. Heng Kee spoke on “The difference between a man and a woman” and “Dating and communication” while Suk Ling shared on “How to prepare yourself to be a suitable life partner”. They asked the students to think about whether they had the qualities of a good partner, including maturity. The participants were also advised to keep themselves pure before marriage as that was the best guarantee to a good relationship with their future partner.

Subsequently, Heng Kee and Suk Ling were invited to speak at a seminar for undergraduates and teenagers at a church in Penang. They were very encouraged by the response of the youths who asked a lot of questions. They added an extra topic called “Finding God’s will in our choice of a life partner”, introducing the 3M principle (master, mission and mate). The youths discovered that the choice of a life partner is crucial as it will affect their family and future generations. They made a commitment to take courtship seriously and to grow and prepare themselves to be a suitable mate.
