Movies and Card-writing

On July 13, 2004, a movie watching-cum-card writing session was held as part of the freshmen outreach program. This pre-evangelistic event, with the theme of “Mom, dad, I love you”, was attended by 75 students, 35 of them non-Christians.

Two very touching and meaningful films (abridged) were shown. They were Home Run and I Not Stupid.

The facilitators then handed out cards and envelopes and encouraged the audience to write a note to their parents to thank them for their love and guidance. This was followed by a time of fellowship over dinner, which was provided by the ministry staff.

A follow-up program was held from Aug 7 to 8. Twenty students signed up for a trip to Port Dickson, where they stayed at the NUBE bungalow.

They had fun playing telematch at the beach and also visited an ostrich farm.

They were also advised by MCCC staff to think about their plans for the future and to write their mission statement. The theme of the session was “The next step”.

“Begin with the end in mind and put stepping stones along the way. One strategy is to have a mission statement,” said the staff.

A third-year student shared that the camp benefited him. He learnt that there is meaning to life and he needs to make plans.

Another student said after attending the talk, she knows how to write her thesis. “Before, I used to start from the beginning, but now I look at the end result and work towards that,” she explained.

The students also did a DISC test to analyse their personalities (dominant, influencing, steady or compliant). The DISC profiling was an eye-opener to many, who found it very helpful in understanding their behaviour and that of their friends.
