Shining for the Lord

 

Almost every Sunday morning, MCCC Children's Ministry coordinator Siew Choo gets a call from an 11-year-old girl, reminding her to pick her up for Sunday School at Jalan Tiga Gospel Hall.

 

Jia Wen has been attending Good News Land bible class every Saturday for the last three years. The bible class is an outreach work started by the Children's Ministry in Wangsa Permai. Jia Wen is a good song-leader and teacher's assistant. When Siew Choo invited her to attend the Sunday School at her church, Jia Wen was very enthusiastic about it.

 

Although Jia Wen is only 11, she hungers for God and is an obedient girl. From 9am to 11.30am, before Sunday School starts, she and her friends will be making cards for the church's hospital visitation ministry. She is also part of the visitation team.

 

There was a period of time when Jia Wen stopped attending Sunday School. When Siew Choo asked her why, she replied that she was forbidden from going as she didn't have a good attitude at home and was not doing well in school. Siew Choo encouraged her to change, so that her mother would allow her to go to Sunday School. One day, she received a call from Jia Wen. She told Siew Choo that she was more helpful at home now and her academic results had improved from 30% to 80%. Jia Wen's mother was willing to let her daughter go to Siew Choo's church when she saw the transformation in her. The girl even wakes up as early as 5am on Sundays to help her mother so that she can go to church.

 

This year, Good News Land's theme is "Little Evangelist". It aims to encourage the children to invite their friends to join them, to share the Gospel with their family and friends and to pray for them. Jia Wen brought her younger brother to the bible class. Her neighbors could see the changes in her and they sent their kids go to Good News Land too. Once, when Jia Wen was bullied by some kids, she kept her cool and did not retaliate. Instead, she decided to pray for them.

 

Although Jia Wen is only a child, she is shining for the Lord and a blessing to those around her.
