My Life a Gift for You

Although the mood in the air was one of Christmas celebration, state assemblywoman of Subang Jaya, Y.B. Hannah Yeoh, the invited speaker for the December 16, 2009 Dinner-cum-Talk organized by Leaders Impact, brought to us not a time to exchange gifts, but a time to dedicate our life as a gift for God. Held at a church premise, the meeting was meaningfully led by Juwita Suwito, the emcee for the night. The crowd of 88 working professionals from different spheres of influence were delighted with the special feature of the night, an inspirational presentation by the Tenors for Christ. The entire program climaxed toward the end with a prayer declaration for the nation and held the attention of the audience through the night.

Many commented positively on Hannah's talk; her sharing opened their eyes to what God can do with ordinary Christians and helped them see that God has a higher purpose and calling for their lives. In her sharing, Hannah highlighted the importance of being quick to obey God and being faithful to God's call despite the cost involved in following Christ. In spite of the sacrifices and challenges that awaited them, she and her team decided not to be a part of those who corrupt but to be counted as among those who shape the nation for good. She pointed out that many people are very experienced and qualified but not available. She simply exercised the two basic gifts God gave her-her right to vote and to stand for election. If Christians avail themselves and exercise their rights, they can be a part of lawmakers and guardians of the constitution. She also urged Christians to fill every sector and institution of society, and come alongside the government to promote good governance, as they have the answers to the problems of society.

Richard Koh, the national director of MCCC, gave the closing challenge. Of those in attendance, 10% indicated on the response slip that they were ready to allow Christ to use their lives for His glory, and to journey and network with other followers of Christ to make a difference in their specialized vocations. Though the meeting has ended, it is the beginning of an exciting journey with God for those who responded to God's call.
