Parenting Talk during Working Hours
"Okay, time's up. You guys have to go back to work now," Dr Herbert Tan advised a group of working professionals in an established system solution corporation as he concluded his talk on "Your Child--Beyond Mediocrity." "No!" One of them protested. "The talk is so good and you want to end just like that?" The rest agreed. Since then, the management has approved the initiation of support groups among the staff to discuss parenting issues within the company.
Since early 2002, a group of Christian working professionals in that company had adopted their company as their immediate mission field. The group had been meeting up with Impact! Ministry staff regularly for discipleship. Since direct evangelism is a little sensitive in the office context, they came up with an idea of organizing pre-evangelistic talk during working hours. The talk would then serve as a platform to reach out to their colleagues. After months of prayer, the talk finally became a reality.
Twenty-two professionals of various religious backgrounds came. For most of them, the talk was their first contact with Biblical parenting principles. At the end of the session, many expressed keen desire for a support group and similar talk in the company. The Christian group was overjoyed. They saw that as long as they are willing to work together with God, reaching their colleagues might not be as difficult as they thought.
